Our Design Process
Digitec assigns a dedicated project manager, based on the type of project. This project manager serves as the central point of contact for the client throughout the project. The Digitec project manager uses Microsoft Project to create a Gantt chart identifying schedule, responsibilities, and concurrent tasks.
Project Management Plan
The Project Management Plan details all aspects of the courseware production and management, including all reviews, milestone deliveries, and dependencies.
Media Design Strategy Document
The Media Design Strategy Document is produced following the kick-off meeting. The MDSD details all course conventions and standards including:- Overall design strategy
- Instructional design strategies used for student engagement
- General standards and conventions used to create the eLearning program
- User interface design standards
- User tracking
- Minimum system requirements
- Topic learning objectives and specific instructional strategies, including scope & sequence, enabling objectives and interactive activities and assessments
The MDSD also contains a course outline, based on our analysis of the content. This scope-and-sequence outline details all lessons, topics and interactivity. Digitec’s instructional design team conducts the content review and produces the course content outlines.
These recommendations are reviewed with the client at the Media Design Strategy Review meeting. Following approval of the MDSD and the course outline, Digitec resubmits the document for client review and acceptance. All open issues are then resolved before the project moves into the development phase of production.
Comp Interface Designs
Digitec’s graphic designers produce two or more concepts or comp design treatments for the project, based on the Media Design Strategy. Digitec then presents these intial concepts and revises them based on client feedback.
Digitec will typically refine the look and feel over the course of two rounds of changes to arrive at a final interface main menu and sample screen interface design.
Courseware Prototype
Following client approval of the Media Design Strategy Document, flow chart and interface design, Digitec produces a prototype lesson. The prototype lesson demonstrates all conventions and standards that were detailed in the MDSD. The prototype lesson is a single, complete lesson that demonstrates the various types of interfaces, interactions, and electronic assessments that the courseware will contain.
The prototype serves as a means for the client to see and approve the approach before the course goes into full production. The prototype also enables the client to assess useability and gather target audience feedback.
Storyboard Production
During the development phase of production, Digitec storyboards the course. A storyboard is a rendering of every screen of the course, with details including audio narration and sound effects, video, animation steps, onscreen text and programming descriptions. The storyboards are then provided to the client's subject matter experts for review.
Implement
During this phase of development, Digitec produces, tests and delivers the course. In certain cases, Digitec may recommend a phased approach. In the first review phase, the modules are posted for Client review.
During client review, also known as Beta testing, the process begins with a screen-by-screen review with the client. After this initial review, the course is posted online to facilitate client reviews. If an error is found, a punchlist item is created, using Digitec's online punch list. Once corrected, the punch list item is sent through Digitec's QA and testing and is then posted for client approval.
After all the punchlist items are approved, the course is turned over to the client and a 90 day warranty period begins.
